modern India, a temple, called Akshardham

  1. Some critical thinking questions that come up about the Akshardham temple near Delhi - for students to discuss in their classrooms.

Question 1: should temples charge an entry fee to a place of worship?
If so, what are the implications of this on any religion?

Question 2: if a place of worship is also a great piece of art that elicits reverence (as do the architecture and construction of this temple), then does this place of worship become mere art, that we pay to see?

Question 3: Can/should anyone have to pay to see something that is built on volunteer labor (as this "temple" is)...?

Question 4: Should temples have "gift shops" on their premises?
